Monday Musings: My Happy Headache

I have a headache.  I know it's from dehydration because I went and worked out at Marc's work today after Meals on Wheels and I didn't drink enough.  However, right  now I'm grateful for my headache because at this moment I don't feel depressed or an immense sadness that consumes my whole soul.  I just have a glorious headache.

The  past few days have been filled  sadness, tears, have consumed my whole being even until about noon today.  And then I noticed I felt normal, not in a fog and I was grateful.  Why:  the meds are working?, prayer is working?, the workout?, service?....  I don't know why.

As for now I am feeling okay, but I think I'd better get a drink of water.

Monday Musings

My blog is about Creating moment of happiness....yet I know my posts have been a lot about my depression.  Ironic, I know.  One can only hope that those moments of happiness, clear mind come soon and I can write about my good life.

So here's a  moment of happiness mixed with tears.  Feeling weepy yesterday, not unusual I know.  My sweet kids saw me and gave me a hug.  Jaycie came and told me to have cereal.  "Cereal always makes me feel better" , she said.    Adorable.  Needless to say I didn't have cereal, but her innocent, sweet gesture made me smile.

Not to be outdone, Braden came and gave me a blow up giraffe.   If only blowup giraffes and cereal did make it all better.  My kids do make me feel better and help me create those moments of happiness that I know will come soon.

Monday Musings: Beautiful Heartbreak

Yesterday was a hard day.  I went to church and couldn't control my emotions.  I had to leave Relief Society   and one of my good friends followed me out and I poured out my heart to her.  I still couldn't contain my emotions so I left.  As I got in the car "Beautiful Heartbreak" came on.  I thought to myself this is not a beautiful heartbreak.  It hurts.

But then I realized some beautiful things that have happened since my "Heartbreak" :

My relationship with Marc has grown stronger.  He has been my rock.
I treasure my family more than ever.
I love my Savior with all my heart and have faith in his healing power
Friends.  My friends have been there and have been so caring and loving

Am I glad the Heartbreak happened.  Honestly. No.  I mourn my old self.  It's been the hardest thing I've ever gone through.  But  I will strive to be grateful for the "beautiful"

Wednesday Review: The Napping House

Not that our house is the Napping House.  This book just reminds me of Summertime fun and being able to be a little lazy at times.  I always like Don Wood's illustrations.  They are fun and whimsy and I like how he plays with light in his illustrations.  The book starts as a rainy day and by the end gradually it turns into a sunny, rainbowy (yes I made up that word) day.

Tuesday Treats: Ice Cream Sandwich Cake

ice cream sandwich cake recipe

  • 20 ice cream sandwiches (regular, strawberry or neopolitan)
  • 1 12 oz. jar hot fudge sauce
  • 1 8 oz. container frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed
  • red, white and blue sprinkles

Preparation:

  1. Cut one ice cream sandwich in half. Place one whole ice cream sandwich and one half of an ice cream sandwich side by side across the short end of a 9 x 13 pan.

  2. Next to those ice cream sandwiches, arrange 8 more ice cream sandwiches lengthwise, to cover the bottom of the pan.

  3. Place hot fudge sauce in a microwave-safe container. Heat on high for 30 seconds. Spread half of the sauce over the ice cream sandwiches.

  4. Top with half of the whipped topping.

  5. Repeat layers: ice cream sandwiches, hot fudge sauce and whipped topping. Scatter sprinkles over top.

  6. Freeze, uncovered 2 hours. Cover with foil and freeze another hour.

I halved the recipe (which is probably a good thing because I think we would of ate it all ;).  I also added a little caramel syrup instead of the sprinkles.   Pure summer Yumminess!

Monday musings: Summer time

First day of Official Summer and things are going pretty well.  I've reorganized my "Blue Box of Happiness" which is a my organizing tool to keep the kids busy and productive.  Honestly it's been nice having them here.   With my Depression making a violent comeback the past couple of months, I seem to enjoy the company.

So here's to a Summer of Hope, Service, Fun, Work,  and building relationships
