Monday Musings: It's the Little Things
My musings have been pretty scattered lately but lately I've been thinking about the Relief Society General Conference. That meeting had such an impact on me. I've pondered on it many times. Having the Atonement written in our hearts each day and how the Atonement can make all things right.
I feel generally I have faith in the Atonement, but yet it's the daily struggle to trust, hope and know all things will work for those that love Him (see Romans 8:28). So I am working on it. Doing those little things that are really big things. Prayer. Temple. Scripture Study. Sacrament. And so on.
So along those lines, I'd like to share a song I came across the other day called "Beautiful Heartache" about How He does make our life beautiful regardless or perhaps because of our circumstances.

Wednesday Book Club: The Teeny Tiny Teacher
Now that school's in session, I don't do the book of the week and activities I was doing with Jaycie during the Summer.. However, I still enjoy a good picture book, so I set aside a few each month that I want to make sure I read with Jaycie.
This is a cute Halloween book taken from the classic The Teeny Tiny Woman. It might get cumbersome as it has teeny tiny in front of every noun. Personally, I like it. I think it's a fun story to read out loud and kids love it.
Tuesday Treats: Caramel Sauce for apples

(closetcooking.com)
I got this recipe from our Suncrest 5th Ward Cookbook from years ago. I think I tried this recipe once. It's actually for caramel corn. I 'm going to make it today for an after school snack cuz I know my kiddos will eat these apples I bought if I let them dip it in sugar.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups brown sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
1. In a 2-quart saucepan, melt butter on low heat.
2. Add brown sugar, corn syrup, and milk, stirring to combine. Increase heat to medium (or perhaps just below medium).
3. Stir constantly until mixture comes to a boil.* Use a spoon that won't melt -- the caramel gets pretty hot!
4. Remove from heat and whisk in the vanilla and cinnamon.
5. Serve warm or cold with apple slices, or drizzle over ice cream

FHE October: Prayer,Prepare and Promises
FHE
Lesson October
Joseph Smith History 1:9-19
Have a
question before Conference
True to the Faith pg 123 “Receiving Answers to Prayers”
1. Members of the Church are entitled to personal
revelation as they listen to and study the inspired words spoken at general
conference.
As you prepare for general conference, I invite you to ponder
questions you need to have answered. For example, you might yearn for direction
and guidance by the Lord regarding challenges you are facing.
Answers to your
specific prayers may come directly from a particular talk or from a specific
phrase. At other times answers may come in a seemingly unrelated word, phrase,
or song. A heart filled with gratitude for the blessings of life and an earnest
desire to hear and follow the words of counsel will prepare the way for
personal revelation. (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf)
Decide now to make general conference a
priority in your life. Decide to listen carefully and follow the teachings that
are given. Listen to or read the talks more than once to better understand and
follow the counsel. By doing these things, the gates of hell will not prevail
against you, the powers of darkness will be dispersed from before you, and the
heavens will shake for your good.(Paul V. Johnson-Quorum of the Seventy)

Treat: Soft Pretzels dipped in frosting
Share the story of the origin of pretzels
(Pretzels were first made by monks who gave them as rewards to children who had learned their prayers. The special twisted shape looks like the folded arms of a child praying. The word pretzel means reward. dltk website)
