Wednesday Review: The Napping House

Not that our house is the Napping House.  This book just reminds me of Summertime fun and being able to be a little lazy at times.  I always like Don Wood's illustrations.  They are fun and whimsy and I like how he plays with light in his illustrations.  The book starts as a rainy day and by the end gradually it turns into a sunny, rainbowy (yes I made up that word) day.

Tuesday Treats: Ice Cream Sandwich Cake

ice cream sandwich cake recipe

  • 20 ice cream sandwiches (regular, strawberry or neopolitan)
  • 1 12 oz. jar hot fudge sauce
  • 1 8 oz. container frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed
  • red, white and blue sprinkles

Preparation:

  1. Cut one ice cream sandwich in half. Place one whole ice cream sandwich and one half of an ice cream sandwich side by side across the short end of a 9 x 13 pan.

  2. Next to those ice cream sandwiches, arrange 8 more ice cream sandwiches lengthwise, to cover the bottom of the pan.

  3. Place hot fudge sauce in a microwave-safe container. Heat on high for 30 seconds. Spread half of the sauce over the ice cream sandwiches.

  4. Top with half of the whipped topping.

  5. Repeat layers: ice cream sandwiches, hot fudge sauce and whipped topping. Scatter sprinkles over top.

  6. Freeze, uncovered 2 hours. Cover with foil and freeze another hour.

I halved the recipe (which is probably a good thing because I think we would of ate it all ;).  I also added a little caramel syrup instead of the sprinkles.   Pure summer Yumminess!

Monday musings: Summer time

First day of Official Summer and things are going pretty well.  I've reorganized my "Blue Box of Happiness" which is a my organizing tool to keep the kids busy and productive.  Honestly it's been nice having them here.   With my Depression making a violent comeback the past couple of months, I seem to enjoy the company.

So here's to a Summer of Hope, Service, Fun, Work,  and building relationships

Monday Musings: Power of Deliverance

I know I haven't mused for a while.  So I decided to do it.  I wrote in my last Monday musings I was getting better back in March.  Well then I crashed.  I became extremely depressed, ocd issues.  It has been a living nightmare.

That's the puzzling thing about depression   I have a great life.  A wonderful husband, great kid, good friends,  so why do I struggle so much?!  Depression is a physical ailment that needs to be addressed physically.  Is it because of emotional junk I have, probably so.  But doesn't everyone?

My new favorite scripture is in 1 Nephi chapter 1, verse 20 :   "But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance".

I am relying on that promise everyday that I will have the faith and have the power to overcome this horrible horrible monster.
